What camera do you use?

I just tried using our Canon PowerShot S3 IS to take pictures of my nail polish storage, and the pictures don't seem better than the pictures I take with my iPhone4.  The camera goes to 6 MegaPixels.  The iPhone4 is 5 MegaPixels, I think.  I will go take the same pictures with my iPhone4 and compare, but I am interested in hearing about the cameras you use and in any recommendations.

Thank you!

  1. I use my iPhone 4 with HDR and sometimes auto-enhance to show a more true color for swatches.

I can't afford an expensive camera and my iPhone is 100x better than an HP (8MP) and FujiFilm (15mp) cameras I have, they don't even compare... it's kinda sad haha

    1. Good to know that I am not the only one who liked her iPhone pictures more than digital camera pictures.

I will look up and learn about HDR and auto-enhance.

      THANK YOU!

    2. I'm glad I'm not the only one either!

Can I also admit I take my pictures in my bathroom sink? LMAO

    3. That's so funny! I'm about to take pictures of nail polish swatches on my bathroom sink, but it's going to be my first bathroom sink/counter pic. Actually, no, one time I took all my polishes out when I got my little storage drawers so that I could organize them by color, and I texted the pic to my husband . . . who was appalled . . . and now I have so many more polishes that I am outgrowing my storage drawers. Anyway, my polishes live in my bathroom, in the linen closet, so I am surprised I haven't taken more pictures in the bathroom!

  2. I use my iphone4s but my lighting at home sucks. The photos come out with a yellow tinge that has to be edited with photoshop.

I have a canon t2i that's a hassle to use but probably will use it when I get a lightbox.

    1. My lighting is bad, too. I started to use programs like Photoshop when I started scrapbooking a few years ago, but I still have a lot to learn, and it takes extra time, too.

I have seen some amazing pictures on English-language nail polish blogs by Dutch women. Their nails are also just perfect. And, some of the best-known nail polish bloggers take amazing pictures, and I know that some use expensive cameras and do a lot of editing.

The iPhone is so easy, though. :-)
