Blog Names

For those of you who have nail polish blogs, how did you come up with your blog name? Did you consider other possible blog names? Did you get anyone's opinion?

I considered "Nails, A Little on the Trashy Side," but hubby didn't like that, the name or the idea of trashy nails. I also considered "Nails: Classy to Trashy" or something like that. I had relatively conservative manicures my whole life until I became glitter-crazy last year, and crazy about holo polish, magnetic polish, blue and green polish, etc. I tossed the "trashy" names around in my head for a few days.

The day I started my blog, I sent a text to my husband with possible blog names. "Lacquer-Loving Lawyer" was the first name on the list. I had not thought of it before, but I liked the name from the moment I came up with it. Other possible names I included in the text message were "Legal Lacquer Love," "Nails In and Out of Court," and "In-House Polish Counsel." I also considered "Crested Dog Mom's Nails" because I am crazy about our two Chinese crested hairless dogs, and "Crested Dog Mom" was my Google profile name, and I had commented on nail polish blogs with that profile name. I still read all the blogs I follow as "Crested Dog Mom" through the Google Reader connected to my "Crested Dog Mom" profile.

So, tell me how you came up with your blog name!

  1. The first name I came up with was 'You've Got Nail', but there was already a blog with that name. Then I came up with 'Nailed It, but I counted about 7 different blogs with variations on that. I also tossed around 'Variations on a Theme' and 'Beyond French', but those didn't sound like nail blog names to me.
Finally I came up with Globe & Nail, which is a play on the name of the Canadian newspaper 'The Globe & Mail'. Since I also love travelling, I thought it fit nicely :)

    1. I *love* "You've Got Nail!" Too bad it was taken. I was really surprised that no one had taken my name, either, or an e-mail address like mine.

I really like Globe & Nail, too! That's a very clever play on words!

  2. Ooh I like In House Polish Counsel lols
I initially wanted to use my name, as in Absolutely Alice but then that was already taken so I opted to use my semi-part time knick name lol I wanted something that didn't obligate me to just post about nails, it's a blog about me, and what I love....so it's pretty much absolutely me! I'm pretty bummed I couldn't use Alice but oh wells..lols I had a slow start on blogging so you lose out lol

    1. I think that was really good thinking, not making the blog name nail polish specific so that you could post about other things, too. I think Absolutely Cee is a very cute blog name, though. Cee has a higher cuteness quotient than Alice. ;-)

  3. Varnished Valkyrie... It was an obvious choice. Seriously though I maybe had one other potential name. Valkyries are just plain amazing. And it went well with Varnished. Well at least I think so :P

    1. I love the alliteration, and I love the image it brings to mind. When I first started following your blog, the name made me remember you better.
